BENTLEY MARINE Next Gen Aluminum Diesels / GREEN LNG Engines & Gear Boxes
BENTLEY MARINE recently unveiled a unique line of custom-built
and military proven Marine Aluminum Diesel GREEN engines and gear boxes with no parallel in the
world. The ultra compact and lightweight aluminum Diesels boost high horsepower
to weight ratio and are ideal for commercial and military applications where speed, space and weight savings are paramount.
The Dual Fuel GREEN engines are designed to run on either Diesel, Biodiesel or non-flammable cryogenic Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) with equal outstanding performance. The LNG versions are based on an innovative sparkless technology which instead of using spark plugs to ignite the mixture, uses 3% to 5% of Diesel fuel, thus retaining the maximum design performance of the engines through the entire power band with no power losses. BENTLEY MARINE Aluminum engines are not only environmentally friendly, they are the cleanest marine engines on the market today, exceeding all IMO and EPA future emission requirements.
With three basic configurations - a four stroke turbocharged and intercooled V-12 with cylinder banks inclined 60º to each other with output power up to 1500HP and the extraordinary Radial series, the only Marine Radial Diesel engines available on the market, which come in two configurations: a four stroke turbocharged and intercooled 42 cylinders with seven banks containing six cylinders each, for up to 4000HP and a 56 cylinders version with eight cylinders per bank for up to 5350HP. Over thirty models are available in total, with integral or nonintegral aluminum gear boxes, to suit the most demanding applications, including a twin 56cylinders engine for a brute 10,000HP output. All engines are custom built to order and delivered turn-key.
Unlike production Diesel engines, in order to insure maximum quality our Next Gen BENTLEY MARINE custom built Aluminum Diesel engines and gear boxes have all its integral parts manufactured in the same plant. After assembly, all engines are vigorously tested, then completely disassembled for inspection under the strict BENTLEY MARINE Total Quality Control Program and reassembled before delivery and installation by a team of certified factory technicians. A two year full warranty coverage is standard on all BENTLEY MARINE Aluminum Diesel engines and gear boxes.

NOTE: All Next Gen BENTLEY MARINE engine dimensions & weight are calculated with their respective integral gearboxes.
BENTLEY MARINE V-12's are 4 stroke engines with blocks inclined
60º to each other, with direct fuel injection, turbocharged and intercooled. Bore is
180mm and Stroke 200mm, in a total displacement of 62.4 Liters.
The engines operate at a low 1600RPM which provide for much quieter operation and a extremely long service life of up to 8000 hours (TBO) time before the first overhaul and up to 20000 hours before major overhaul. Fuel consumption for the 1600HP (1100kW) models are a mere 200 g/kW-h.
The innovative and modern design of the BENTLEY MARINE V-12 Series incorporates a
dry sump crankcase lubrication system and the possibility of mounting the turbo
compressor and gas exhaust manifold in either side of the engine to facilitate
installation. Another main advantage of the V-12 Series is that all auxiliary systems are
integrated into the engine, such as oil filters, oil coolers, thermostatic valves and
control actuators, making it into a one very compact and easy to service unit. The
incorporation of all auxiliary systems into the engine help prevent and avoid possible
leaks and malfunction commonly associated with remotely mounted auxiliary systems like
most
production Diesel engines.
BENTLEY MARINE Aluminum V-12 Series can be ordered with either left (clockwise) or right (anti-clockwise) rotation, thus balancing the rotational forces of the propellers for a much more efficient propulsion.
Several custom gear box configurations are available to be either incorporated into the engine itself or externally mounted, with a range of reduction gear ratios and V-drives with inclinations up to 15º. For applications that demand maximum torque at various speeds, an automatic four speed gear box is also available.
Delivery is generally 3 to 4 months from the order's date.
Dare to Compare!
(Comparable engines must have similar
displacement & horsepower rated at continuous duty)
The closest
comparable, Caterpillar 3512 Series, has either a 52 or 59 Liters displacement and weights
more than double than BENTLEY MARINE's V-12 Series with integral gearbox. The new light
duty Caterpillar C30 with a displacement of only 30 Liters, which is less than half of the
displacement of BENTLEY MARINE's V-12 Series (62.4 Liters) is not really a contender, but
weights the same as BENTLEY MARINE V-12 series (only 153 kg less) and is still wider and
taller.
The closest MTU comparable is the 12V 4000 M60R which still has a much lower
displacement than BENTLEY MARINE's V-12 Series and even than Caterpillar 3512 Series, at
only 48.7 Liters, and yet weights almost three times more than BENTLEY MARINE's V-12
Series and consumes more fuel, with a fuel consumption of 205 g/kW-h. Although the other
two MTU engines rated at the same power are absolutely no contenders, as the 12V 2000 M91
has a displacement of only 24 Liters and the 8V 4000 M70 a displacement of only 32.5, yet
both of them weight more than BENTLEY MARINE V-12 Series Aluminum Diesels (actually the 8V
4000 M70 weights double) and yet consume way more fuel, at 227 g/kW-h for the 12V 2000 M91
and 213 g/kW-h for the 8V 4000 M70.

The BENTLEY MARINE 42Cylinder Series Radial Aluminum engines are the only one of its kind
in the world!
The 42 Cylinder Series produce up to 2940Kw or about 4000HP in a very compact and lightweight envelope unmatched by any other Diesel engine.
This technology masterpiece is a 4 stroke radial engine with seven blocks of six cylinders each inclined 51º25'43" to each other, with direct fuel injection, turbocharged and intercooled. Bore is 160mm and Stroke 170mm, in a total of 147 Liters, turning smoothly at 2200RPM for a service life of up to 4000 hours before the first overhaul and up to 10000 hours before major overhaul. They also have a low fuel consumption of only 226 g/kW-h.
As all BENTLEY MARINE Diesel engines, the 42 Cylinder Series incorporate a dry sump crankcase lubrication system with all its auxiliary systems integrated into the engine (oil filters, oil coolers, thermostatic valves and control actuators).
The outstanding BENTLEY MARINE 42 and 56 Cylinder Series are the only Diesel engines in
the world available with integral reversible gearboxes or hydraulic transmission for
parallel operation with gas turbines.
Dare to Compare!
The comparable 148 Liters Caterpillar engine weights 13,550kg more without the respective gearbox. That is over three times the weight of BENTLEY MARINE's 42 Cylinder Series Aluminum engines with the integral gearboxes. MTU, with less than half of the displacement (65 Liters) is not really a comparable engine, but still weights almost double of the weight of BENTLEY MARINE's 147 Liters engine with the integral gearbox. Additionally, Caterpillar and MTU are also much longer, wider and taller than BENTLEY MARINE's 42 Cylinder Series Aluminum Diesel engines.
